Regardless of timing for the possible extension of seasonal tourist rail service to Tupper Lake, this section of the corridor will continue to be a part of the C7 snowmobile corridor linking Old Forge to the north. The 56 miles connecting Tupper Lake to Piercefield, Sabattis, Lake Lila, Beaver River, Big Moose and Old Forge has been proposed for expanded rail service but there are many steps to making that proposal real, including completing cost-benefit analyses, finding a responsible operator, and negotiating an operating lease that protects taxpayers against building a railroad to nowhere. Construction on this segment started in October 2020 with the removal of the rails and ties. The fish hatchery located at the pond’s north end was rendered inoperable. The Adirondack Rail Trail * will consist of two segments of the rail corridor through the heart of the Adirondacks: the first segment, 34 miles connecting Lake Placid, Ray Brook, Saranac Lake, Lake Clear, and Tupper Lake has been approved for rail-trail construction by the Departments of Environmental Conservation and Transportation, and certified as complying with the State Land Use Master Plan by the Adirondack Park Agency. The heart of the project required significant dredging from a 1997 “100-year flood” that overwhelmed the popular trout pond, which sits adjacent to the trail, and created major erosion issues. His background in landscape architecture, business ownership and special projects work with the Amherst Planning Department made him an ideal candidate for the position. Eight years ago, Jason Engel took on a leadership role with Springville Field and Stream. Most recently, a new, exciting partnership is in the works between ECRT and the Springville Community Trout Pond. Biking, hiking, scouting groups, snowmobile clubs, local businesses, Chambers of Commerce, and adjacent municipalities have supported the trail in a variety of ways and have, in turn, enjoyed positive community recognition and economic benefits. This is significant progress! With your help, we can BEAT our participation and fundraising successes from last year and continue to build this trail.Įrie Cattaraugus Rail Trail has enjoyed the benefits of partnering with a variety of community and regional organizations. Funds from the 2021 Fondo are being used to remove rails and ties in Orchard Park on the only remaining mile with rails still in. The 2021 EA2EVL Fondo sold out with 300+ riders, bringing in over $50,000 for the 27-mile ECRT rail trail that runs along the former Buffalo & Pittsburgh rail line from Orchard Park to Ashford, NY. You can also make donations on this link/site. Participants are also asked to raise a minimum of $100 in donations for ECRT. Remember, all riders receive a commemorative shirt and access to the post-event party.

This 42-mile non-competitive road ride from East Aurora to Ellicottville starts at 42 North Brewery and ends at a finish line party at Holiday Valley. Once again, ECRT is proud to host the EA2EVL Fondo, a charity bike ride that will take place on October 1 to benefit the Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail.
